About Me

Hi, I’m Matthew. Welcome to my site and work. I am a Nutritional Health Coach with a focus on Functional Medicine.

One of my greatest passions in life is health and wellness.  I suffered through some challenging health issue with my gut for over two decades before I started focused nutritional and lifestyle protocols. It led to not only a lot of pain and discomfort in my gut, but messed with my energy, left me feeling tired and run down. It was a true game-changer in my life when I discovered how to shift it – primarily through nutritional intervention.  I had no idea that it was even possible.  Things I didn’t even think were related, like my mood, shifted dramatically for the better.

If you are challenged in your health, I can certainly empathize and likely help you unlock and uncover tools for vibrant and dynamic health.  I’m passionate about helping people understand how nutrition and certain lifestyle changes can bring your body and mind more energy and vitality, creating more joy in life.

If you have stomach or intestinal pain or discomfort, like IBS, nausea, or acid reflux, I can help.

If you have low energy, feel tired frequently, I can help.

If you have auto-immune challenges, I can help.

My nutrition focus is on nutrient-dense anti-inflmattory diets, including ancestral/paleo, low-carb, ketogenic and more.

Specific areas I support:

  • Healthy eating for optimal health
    • How to choose the foods and diet that work for your unique body and needs
    • Shopping and grocery support
    • Supplements to support your bodies needs
  • Stress reduction & inner peace
  • Better sleep
  • Reducing environmental toxins
  • Lab tests: Check out how your body is functioning, and how to target specific improvements.

I want to work with you where you are. Some folks are ready to dig deep and make significant shifts in their diet and lifestyle, others want to take it one step at a time, and ease into more healthful habits.  Any shift will help your health, even the little ones. Our work together is focused on your desires and readiness, not mine.

More about my story and background:

After 15 years co-founding and helping lead a successful U.S. based NGO, I had a profound healing experience with Functional Medicine and decided to shift gears and move into nutrition and health coaching – as well as nutrition advocacy. img_0123-cropMy personal mission is to help people find health and wellness, in support of living a vibrant and meaningful life.

After nearly 20 years of suffering from an intestinal auto-immune disease, including SIBO, I was able to turn my life around.

I’ve long been a student of various personal growth and spiritual modalities. I know first hand the power of changing both your mind, and your nutrition & dietary lifestyle. They work hand-in-hand to help stabilize, and then transform your life.

Over the past 25 years, I’ve studied healthful, whole foods diet and lifestyle. I graduated from Holistic Nutrition Lab’s Full Body Systems program. I’m currently enrolled in the Functional Medicine Coaching Academy program, a collaboration with the Institute for Functional Medicine (chaired by Dr. Mark Hyman), which is the only internationally approved Functional Medicine health coach training program through the International Consortium for Health and Wellness coaches that has completely incorporated Functional Medicine and Functional Nutrition into the curriculum.  I am also studying Genetics, MTHFR, Methylation, & Biochemistry through Metabolic Healing as well as Ben Lynch’s Seeking Health Institute.

I have a B.A. in psychology from Sonoma State University in California and an Master of Arts in Humanities and Leadership with a focus on Culture, Ecology and Sustainable Community from New College of California. I’m the author of “Living Out Loud: Young Adults, Finding Our Purpose, Shaping a Better World.”

I spent the first part of my career as co-founder, Director and currently a board member of The Peace Alliance (www.thepeacealliance.org), an alliance of organizers and advocates throughout the United States taking the work of peacebuilding from the margins of society into the centers of national discourse and policy priorities. We mobilize a network of grassroots teams in cities, towns, colleges and high school campuses. It was co-founded by one of my most important mentors, Marianne Williamson, best-selling author and lecturer. I coached and trained hundreds of people to be more effective citizens and activists towards our shared cause of peace. We trained not only on how to be effective at activism, but also how to embody peace as a core operating value in our activism. I worked with The Peace Alliance since its founding in 2004 -2016 and prior to that worked on various campaigns over the years to help create a more just and sustainable world.

I also have a Huffington Post blog where you can read my musings on peacebuilding.
